Assamese will be made a compulsory subject in all schools in Assam till Class 10, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced in a press meet today on December 21st.
He said that in the coming State Legislative Assembly the cabinet will introduce a bill in which any medium- English, Bengali, Hindi schools will have to teach Assamese language as a mandatory subject till Class 10.

Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Assamese subject will be included compulsory up to class 10 in all medium schools including English, Hindi, Bengali," .

However, this provision will not be applicable in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) areas; Bodo dominated areas, Hills districts and Barak Valley.
